ORGANISM 6 / Derma

Pencil drawings | since 2010

The skin is the body’s outer shell and its largest organ. It protects against external influences and engages in a lively exchange with the environment. A complex bulwark that separates the organism from the outer world, but also represents it to the outside world.
As nerves run through the skin, it senses changes in the air, discerns fluctuations in temperature and emits body odour. Similar variations of this outer covering recur in various living creatures: pores, hair, openings such as slits, mouths, lids; moles but also tumours, wrinkles, scars, etc.
In the large-format drawings of this work, these variations in skin types and special topological characteristics are combined to form autonomous skin landscapes.
